Mount Camdeboo Private Game Reserve

Graaff-Reinet, Eastern Cape

LOCATION
Framed by the Sneeuberg Mountain Range, Mount Camdeboo stretches out over 14 000 hectares of beautiful, private land where impressive vistas form unparalleled backdrops for game viewing. Here, a diverse range of topography and dramatic landscapes, from lush valleys to sweeping plateaus can be absorbed. Over the years, much love and dedication has been poured into the development of this property from agricultural farm land into a pristine game reserve in line with Mount Camdeboo’s vision to conserve the land and provide a natural habitat where wildlife, including endangered species, are able to roam freely. The reserve further affords guests easy access to a range of attractions as it is set in proximity to the historical town of Graaff-Reinet, Nieu Bethesda and the breathtaking Valley of Desolation.

Tastefully renovated, Hillside Manor is used to accommodate overflow from Camdeboo Manor when required. Dining
The Karoo has a strong heritage of flavour-rich, traditional cooking. The talented chefs at Mount Camdeboo have been inspired by recipes that date back to the early Cape settlers, reinvented with a light contemporary touch. These wholesome meals are seasoned with herbs grown on the Reserve while the balance of delicious ingredients are brought in fresh from neighbouring farms and suppliers.

Our meals are friendly for wide spectrum of dietary types including halaal, kosher, vegetarian and vegan.

Experiences
Abundant in history and nature, the town of Graaff-Reinet provides a peaceful getaway from the bustle of everyday life. A mere 45 minute drive away from Mount Camdeboo, Graaff-Reinet boasts many interesting and unique activities.

GAME DRIVES & GUIDED BUSH WALKS
A stay at Mount Camdeboo includes two game drives per day (averaging about three hours each) at optimal wildlife viewing times,
namely: pre-dawn and sunset. The vehicles used on the reserve are purpose-built, nine-seater game viewing Land Rovers. They are SABS safety approved and are equipped with seatbelts, a shade canopy and drink holders. Given that the Camdeboo Manors are nestled in a valley, the game drives typically start with a breathtaking climb up the mountain slopes and onto the plateau above where the animals graze and where the world unfolds at guests’ feet.
Private safari vehicle: Extra charge (day runs from 12H00 on day of arrival to 10H00 on day of departure, subject to availability).
Guided bush walks offer an alternative to a normal game drive, subject to the whole vehicle opting to walk.

About THE GREAT KAROO
The Great Karoo is considered a semi-desert region. Arid air and cloudless skies are typical of this area, as are great heat and frosts. Daytime is typically warm, while nighttime and early mornings can become cool, even in summer months. This climate results in a very particular landscape, dotted with xerophytic vegetation. The topography on Mount Camdeboo is however quite different, boasting lush valleys, due to its location at the foot of the Sneeuberg.
